Motion Design and Visuals

Whilst by no means being a luddite or an aging hippie (ok, maybe aging) and certainly not adverse to a bit of cgi in the right context, it’s safe to say 80% of the motion design and content creation done is more “organic” than current trends dictate.

Based mainly on experimentation with how liquids flow and react to various applied forces, chucking various foreign objects into tanks of water, and sloshing around mixtures of ink, oil and whatever else might make a pretty picture, the grounding is very much in the home made, cottage industry “liquid light show” effects of the sixties, and the oil wheel effects projectors abundant in the school discos of my youth.

Throw in a dark fascination with disorientating and mildly disturbing repetitive moving geometrical shapes and moire patterns, and you have the essence of what I’ve spent much of my career trying to acheive.

With the increased proliferation of large format LED screens and projection, ironically these old school effects, while not being any easier to create, are becoming easier to display.

PUTTING THE “ART” BACK INTO ARTISAN LIGHT SHOWS.
